Project P:ear

"Distill" - oil on wood - 8" x 8" - 2015

This holiday season, Stephanie Chefas Projects in collaboration with p:ear, a Portland non-profit that mentors homeless youth are delighted to announce a benefit group exhibit titled Project p:ear. Featuring works from an array of over 40 artists, Project p:ear celebrates the creativity of the human spirit and our inherent drive for self expression.  20% of all proceeds from the exhibit will be donated to p:ear programs.

p:ear is a program dedicated to building positive relationships with homeless and transitional youth through education, arts, and recreation. Their aim is to foster trust, enable stability and build self-esteem by teaming troubled young people with role models and instructors for years at a time.
The organization targets youth who are frequently deemed as 'hopeless cases' by society at large, and believes that through intensive guidance their students can shine as bright as anyone else, if not brighter. One of p:ear's core philosophies is to inspire through creativity, thereby providing young people with the tools to express themselves constructively. For more information, visit www.pearmentor.org.
Stephanie Chefas Projects is located on the second floor of the Urban Row building at 305 SE 3rd Ave., Suite 202 in Portland, Oregon. Project p:ear opens to the public Friday, December 4th from 6-10pm.

Fresh Brew

I am excited to be a part of the widely anticipated launch of Stephanie Chefas Projects in Portland, OR. on October 23rd.  Showcasing work from 20 artists this exhibition will bring together oil paintings, textiles, graphite drawing, and neon, while providing the same curatorial punch that Chefas has been providing at galleries down the Pacific coast for the last few years.  I look forward to seeing there.

Stephanie Chefas Projects is located on the second floor of the Urban Row Building at 305 SE 3rd Avenue, Suite 202 in Portland, Oregon. “Fresh Brew” will open to the public on Friday, October 23rd, 2015 from 6PM to 9PM.

Summer 2015

I'm just coming off of an amazing month in residence at the University of Windsor where I had chance to flesh out an entirely new process and project.  I'll get some images up as soon as I am able.  This summer is proving to be a fast paced one to say the least.  I have several things on the horizon, so let me give you the most immediate few.

There is still time to catch Product Displacement at Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City.  A group show that explores the invasion of media and the arts by advertising.  There are a lot of great artists in this show, so check it out if you get a chance.  Runs until July 18, 2015.

Opening on June 13th is Modern Eden Gallery's 4th Annual Portrait Invitational.  This year's theme is Superhero, and I've chosen to take a somewhat abstract approach to Batman.  This is my second group show with ME, and I'm very excited to be working with them again.  The show runs until July 6th, so if you're in San Francisco this summer, drop in and check it out.

Finally, opening in Melbourne, Australia is 6x6.  A large show of small work organized by Auguste Clown Gallery.  The show boasts over 35 international artists and should prove to be an overwhelming experience.  The show opens on June 19th and runs until July 5th so if you're in Southern Australia I hope you can check it out.

There are a few more things coming up before the fall, so I will do my best to keep you all updated as soon as I have all the information.  You can also follow on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for quick updates on shows and what's developing in the studio.

May 2015!

I'm excited to announce that I will be attending a residency at the University of Windsor for the month of May.  I will be undertaking research for a new project and working out a few older pieces while I'm there.  I will also be giving a talk about my work on May 6 between 5-7pm at the School of Creative Arts (Lebel Building) Room 115.  If you're in the Windsor-Detroit area swing by and watch me fumble through public speaking.  Always good for a laugh.

Also coming up in May I will have a piece in Corey Helford Gallery's next group show "Product Displacement" which explores the invasion of the arts by advertising.   If you're in Culver City you can check out the show opening on May 23rd 7-10pm, running through to June 20th.

Lastly, a nice interview with me came out in the quarterly mens fashion publication Peter, Tom &Dave this week, and they were nice enough to send me the pages for you to read:

San Francisco!

I'm pleased to tell you I'm participating in two more shows in San Francisco this year.  Coming up in March is Gauntlet Gallery's annual 12 x 12 exhibition which brings together 50 hand picked artists to work in a square foot of surface.  Running from March 14th - April 18th the show features some great names whose work I admire.  Reception is on the March 14th, 7:30pm, all the details are [here]

The second is coming up in June at Modern Eden Gallery for their 4th Annual Portrait Invitational.  This year the theme is Superheroes and I'm taking on Batman, which will be a new challenge for me.  The exhibition runs June 13–July 6, reception on the 13th, and should be an interesting mix of artists and ideas.  More details [here

Looking forward to seeing you again soon San Francisco!

Platinum Blend

A little peek at the Platinum Blend lineup went live on the Hi-Fructose blog on New Year's Day, including a look at the new piece I've sent down.  I'd like to thank Hi-Fructose Magazine for the nod, Modern Eden Gallery for hosting and of course Stephanie Chefas for including me in this great show.  Needless to say, my 2015 is off to a great start.
